In fairness, it's a lot scarier fro you guys now that it's escaped China and is all over the world, seemingly out of control in Korea, Italy, and Iran. Japan is still in the game, putting up a fight to stay off that list.

The 1+1+1 nature of spreading from unknown sources is worrisome because it can go off at any time, but each day it doesn't break out buys the government, hospitals, researchers, medical manufacturers another day to go ahead full speed and another day for everyday ordinary people to enjoy a movie and a restaurant dinner.

It's also another day towards Spring too when, if we're lucky, the weather may beat it for us. Or may not. I pay attention to this angle most of all since we're six weeks deep into Spring here now. What I've learned is that some coronaviruses don't survive well in warm weather, some aren't affected, and there has been no call yet on if this one will go one way or the other.

Most of what I posted the first 2 weeks were very positive, you can go back and read this thread. Some of the posts were even quoted. I proposed even as far back as a month ago that the number of cases was much lower than what was being reported, this was the reason I did not respond to your NEJM post which had a similar theory, I am sorry for not responding . One of a few such posts that i made is quoted below at the bottom of this post.

 

As far as quoting Bill Gates, he is  trying to eliminate polio and has a strong knowledge of infectious disease spread. His thoughts should be taken into account.

I'm no genius but isn't there a way to test this theory with this virus in a temperature-controlled environment?  I assume if it's possible and something could be gleaned from doing it then it's already being done, but it would be nice to know one way or the other.  My gut feeling is that it won't affect it too much.  I think China knows exactly what we are dealing with and I don't think it came from the market but instead from that lab.

Below is my opinion, which I am confident enough in to state as a fact.

It 100% did not come from the Wuhan market, It was too widespread in Decemeber for that to be the case. However that did not mean it came from a lab.

Yeah, I've thought about that too. I think she might actually work for the CDC; seems familiar. Most their labs are in Atlanta.

Shes from somewhere around the NY/NJ region. Newark works for me. But she moved to Atlanta a very long time ago. Over ten years at least.

3rd confirmed infection in the county just north of me, Cook County, which is the county Chicago is in. I guess no more Ubering for me. All the money is in Chicago. Can make $20/hour if I hit it at the right time and day. Today would have been a solid day

This is the mentality that got hundreds of millions of people to starve in the 50s while in the reports everything flowing with chocolate rivers, gumdrops and candy canes.

I've a feeling though that coronavirus (since Jan 23) is different. I hope so anyway. The big bosses have fully detected the rat and will not tolerate being BSed on this issue. They know the screws are coming down from their boss' boss' boss to Xi Jinping himself and they can look to their colleagues in Wuhan and Hubei for an example of what happens when Beijing is feed a fake story on coronavirus. Meanwhile, any potential whistleblower can be inspired by Dr. Li Wenliang who is lionized as a hero on Chinese social media for reporting on the virus, being silenced, and then giving his life fighting it.

So there is bottoms up and top down pressure to make sure the data is accurate. Hopefully. I mean this may be wishful thinking. But I do see that the really strict enforcement we'd had has been loosening these last few days.

Jut another example of how Trump continues to be the living in carnation of Forrest Gump.  The market was overheated, needed a correction, it was bound to come and the Democrats were likely just waiting for it to pounce....and this virus thing is performing the correction for him, and he can avoid blame.... just amazing

Wrong.  This administration claimed it was all a conspiracy against Trump.  It was all meant to bring Trump down.  That's what both Newbie and I objected to in the other thread.  

No one here ever claimed Trump thought the virus itself was a hoax.  Because if someone did, you could quote it.  But you can't.   

And for what it's worth, I don't like Biden's criticism he offered this morning.  Leaders need to step up and lead not point fingers.
