I know. Just busting. I had previously stocked up on pasta in addition to the rest of the stacks of food we normally keep in the house. My wife loads up on Doritos and Pringle’s, though.

Inslee just canceled schools in King/Snohomish/Pierce counties until 4/26.  Thankfully we don't have any kids still in school or I'm sure there would be deaths right here in my home.

I agree with your premise but to be fair the science says Corona is spreading 3 to 4 times faster than the H1N1.  Point taken though.

Another Italian news article, I did not quote the whole thing, but it is worth reading. I am glad we are taking this serious in America finally. We need to keep cancelling stuff to slow this down.

"The number of ICU beds has been tripled. There was even pressure to take over our Cardiac ICU."

He’s not, but he might not have a choice. If he cancels or postpones it himself they have to eat it. If the city cancels it he can recoup a bunch of insurance type stuff. So he is playing chicken with them and keeping the show on until they tell him he can’t do it. They are already moving some weekly tv shows to smaller venues and cancelling Non televised house shows. It’s just a clusterfack either way.

Michigan schools are now closed til April 6.  Spring Break was supposed to start April 6, so that is tentatively cancelled.  My guess is they will change course and tack that extra week on when the time comes.  
 

So, my kids go in today to get their iPads and chrome books, etc.  while the school scrambles to put together some lessons online and via email.  
 

I don’t usually draw large crowds at work, but I need to make a decision about staying open or not. 
 

My wife is going to talk to her employer about working remotely today when she goes in.  

Headed to Wal Mart now for a last ditch stock up effort.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said Wednesday that the White House is considering an executive order to reduce America’s dependence on foreign countries for supplying medical resources.

“China has managed to dominate all aspects of the supply chain using the same unfair trade practices that it has used to dominate other sectors — cheap sweatshop labor, lax environmental regulations and massive government subsidies,” Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro said in an interview with the New York Times.

Navarro indicated that the widespread coronavirus infection demonstrated that the United States depended too much on countries like China.

“This is not just about public health and safety. It’s about our very national defense,” Navarro told reporters on Wednesday.

Navarro said that the order would attempt a “synergistic combo” of streamlining regulations and improving manufacturing technology under the “Buy American” principle voiced by the administration.

Navarro suggested that the executive order could include a proposal to use American funding to purchase “essential” American medical supplies.

“The only way to do that is to make sure that every dollar of government procurement for our essential medicines and medical countermeasures is a dollar spent on ‘Buy American,'” he said.

Sen. Marco Rubio is among Republican senators that have warned about the dangers of America’s medical supply chain becoming too dependent on China, as the coronavirus expands in the United States.

Navarro did not have a specific date set, but he said it would move forward soon.

“We’re trying to move quickly in Trump time, which in this case should be in a matter of weeks,” he said.

From people I have heard from here, there is some sort of directive to only test people who are high risk.  If you have no underlying medical issues that will compromise your immune system, they don't care if you have it.  Not sure if that is coming from insurance, CDC or somewhere else.  Either way, unless its gets fixed and we have enough tests, then we are sort of focked.  I would think that this would be the #1 priority for the CDC, but I am not a scientist.

It's things like this that people are blaming Trump.  Whether they are right in doing so or not, they expect to see some leadership from him.
