So I did a little research. Found out it was even higher than the % I had mentioned. Told him the next day and he said

"where did you get those figures from, the KKK website?

Told him it was from the US Department of Justice and I could text him the link.

He mumbled something under his breath, but never brought it up again.

The moral of the story is that when discussing an issue like that, even if you bring 100% accurate data to the table, a certain percentage of people will label you a racist simply because they don't want to hear it.
