Coronavirus - Doomsday

How do you think the warming weather has affected it?

The experts say that some coronaviruses break down in nice weather and some do not and haven't made a decision on this. I presume Korea and Japan are cold but the weather in Italy and Iran lately, if nice and Spring-like may provided better (and disappointing) clues. It also seems to be spreading pretty well in Singapore which I take as a bad sign.

I assume the crowd here that doesn't think anyone should do anything due to the Coronavirus is against the fed rate cut.  There shouldn't be any impact from the virus.  Why are we needing an emergency .5% rate cut?

Bloomberg has to be loving this. It kills off the old and unhealthy.

'If you show up with prostate cancer and you’re 95, we should say ‘go and enjoy, have a nice day, live a long life.’ There’s no cure and we can’t do anything.
"Bloomberg warned that society was not yet willing to make hard choices with respect to treating older Americans and this is 'going to bankrupt us.'”

Who said we should do nothing?  I think your version of "nothing" is different than others.

Well, it wasn't clear in all of the replies saying people were stupid for doing a thing beyond washing hands.

I think that people were saying that the panic buying and the huge stockpiles of food were overkill.

Wash your hands, stay home if you are sick, avoid other people particularly if they appear to be sick, etc. is just common sense type of stuff during flu season.  I do think that watching "The Walking Dead" does play into some people's thinking.

selfie was crying about 1000's dying without even thinking about the significance of that. If 100 die, that is incredibly serious.  1000's dying would be straight out of movie, and that is still less than 0.0001 of the US population.  It doesn't take much to freak out some people.

Well, I wouldn't want a loved one in the 2% to die from getting it, so I can see where some people are coming from.  I don't think that you do nothing, but the freak out approach won't work either.  I still think that having vodka every night will kill lots of bacteria and viruses.

This seems to be BS to me. The author says " I ask you to respect the fact that I have stripped out of this account all facts that would make it easy to identify me." but then goes on to say he went to school at a western university, has a wife and son, and worked on a project to make angry protesters more docile. How hard is it going to be to deduce who this focker is?

No need to get to one.  They will just kill all 40 that it could be.

The asterisk indicates presumptive positive cases.....something that was also reported by that bastion of liberalism.....Fox News.

For the coronavirus, by March 3 the number of confirmed cases in the U.S. had reached 100, including several presumptive positive cases and 24 in repatriated Americans. At least nine COVID-19 patients have died.

The masks Fireballer had sent Feb 9th arrived today.  They're a gift. He sent them for free, paid the shipping and asked for nothing in return. But ah, my wife and I will reciprocate, we'll send a gift his way.

Thanks, man. I'd had ten surgical masks and when my BiL was here, we had seven people. He wore one when he left. These are supposed to be disposable, one time use, but that's not how it works. I've been using the same surgical mask the whole time. We can't leave the house without one anymore.

I have to admit, it's a bit of an odd feeling as cornoavirus news has changed so much and turned on it's ear since he'd sent them when it really felt so urgent. Now, with the disease slowing down over here, we're feeling more and more like dawn will arrive soon. Meanwhile, it's picking up more and more stateside and out of control in Italy, Iran, and Korea.

The FOX article even has a link to the CDC which does not support the numbers. I don't watch or read Fox, but it appears their reporting is as poor as all the others. The big question is where are these numbers coming from? Maybe you can help out?

Our school district is gearing up to switch to online.  Going to send home laptops and mobile hotspots for students that don't have computers or internet.   Luckily our school district is an example of white privilege and hard working Asians/Indians and we have the necessary equipment.

Remains to be seen how effectively my wife can do her PT on special needs kids via Zoom.

I think in this case it was. He didn’t have to pay the whole 250. He was told 50 was enough.
